Second Half Comeback halted by the Running Eagles in Road SSAC Play
MARIETTA, Ga. (Jan. 4, 2025) - The Point University Women's Basketball team opened the New Year on the road in a Southern States Athletic Conference matchup against Life University where the Skyhawks fell to the Running Eagles with a final score of 72-69.
The Running Eagles opened the first quarter with a 21-7 run to give Point early adversity. The Skyhawks adjusted to an early start with Lanee Edwards and Jada Williams leading the charge with multiple layups and a three-pointer to cut the Running Eagles' lead to single digits. The second quarter continued to pay dividends for Point as Zaria Johnson attacked the paint with three consecutive layups to bring the score to 34-30 with two minutes left. Life responded by going into the half with a three-pointer to lead by seven at the break.
The Skyhawks opened the second half with the momentum shifting their way with Sheila Lee converting a layup and Lanee Edwards adding two three-pointers. Life continued to hold their lead with hopes of going on a big run, but Point would not go away as Jada Williams added a triple and Antonia Pittman followed with a jumper to give the Skyhawks their first lead. Point continued to fire away in the third quarter as Jada Williams powered through the lane for an and-one layup. Point's momentum carried them into the fourth quarter with Aniyah Wesley opening with a layup. Life did not go away as the Running Eagles crept back into the lead. The lead flipped between both opponents with through the following two minutes but the Running Eagles were able to lead 67-63 with three minutes left. Point responded with Sheila Lee adding a clutch layup to bring Life's lead to one. In the final minute, Life forced multiple turnovers and converted their free throws to hold off Point's second-half comeback.

Lanee Edwards led with 23 Points, Three rebounds, and one steal. Jada Williams followed with 19 Points, six rebounds, and four steals. Zaria Johnson added 16 Points, nine rebounds, and one steal.
