Skyhawks Sweep Regular Season Finale Tri- Match
Game 1 vs Clinton College:
The Skyhawks triumphed over the Clinton College Golden Rams with a sweeping victory of 3-0 in game one of the tri-match.
The match began with the Skyhawks taking a dominant lead in the first set, finishing at 25-9. Claire Cordell led the Skyhawks to a hot start offensively recording 12 kills in the set. Cordell's offense Alayna Helmer's defense at the Libero position paced the way for the Skyhawks throughout the entire match.
The second set saw a tighter competition, ending with a score of 25-20 in favor of the Skyhawks. Key contributors in this set included Kristina Faison and Tianna Kynard, who not only provided crucial kills but also contributed to the team's blocking efforts.
The third and final set was the most contested with the Skyhawks clinching the third and final set at 25-23. Paige Lowe's outstanding performance included 26 assists, which was pivotal in setting up numerous scoring opportunities.
With this victory against Clinton, the Point University Skyhawks improved their season record to 21-15.
Game 2 vs Albany State University:
The Skyhawks concluded their regular season with another 3-0 sweep against NCAA foe Albany State. This match was one of resillency for home team. Point trailed late in all three sets before turning each of them around to finish off the Golden Rams in sraight sets.
Sets one and two were almost identical for the Skyhawks. They recorded 12 kills in set one and 13 in set two, attacked 33 times in set one and 34 times in set two, and won both sets 25-23 after trailing by multiple points late in the set.
In the third and final set, the Skyhawks managed to outlast the Golden Rams, finishing with a 26-24 victory and winning all three sets by 2 points. Jasmyn Ceasar led the attack with a total of 11 kills, followed by Claire Cordell with 9 kills and Tianna Kynard contributing both defensively and offensively with 8 kills and 3 blocks. The defensive effort was equally as impressive in this shutout with multiple players contributing significant digs: Jasmyn Ceasar and Alayna Helmer each with 8 digs, Claire Cordell and Ava Clay with 7, and Paige Lowe adding 5 more to the total. Serving also played a pivotal role in the Skyhawks' win, highlighted by Jasmyn Ceasar's impressive 4 aces, Paige Lowe's 2 aces, and Ava Clay's ace.
With the victory, the Skyhawks improved their record to 22 wins and 15 losses for the season. This match also honored Paige Lowe specifically, who received recognition for achieving 3000 career assists, marking a significant milestone in her collegiate athletic career.
The Skyhawks now turn their attention to the postseason and the SSAC Conference Tournament in Montgomery, AL. The championship series will be held November 13th-15th at the Multiplex at Crampton Bowl.
