Women's Volleyball Falls in Conference Tournament Semifinals

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The No. 6 Point University women's volleyball team's season came to an end tonight with a 3-0 (20-25, 15-25, 13-25) loss to No. 1 University of Mobile in the Southern States Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship Semifinals. The Skyhawks finish the season at 24-17, while the Rams move to 29-2.

Tied at five in the opening set, Mobile used a 7-2 run to break the tie and take an 11-7 lead.  Point was able to keep the match close to find it trailing 19-17, but that is as close it would become as the Rams used a 6-3 run to close the set out and win 25-20.

Mobile leaped out to a 9-4 lead in set two and then pushed its lead to 19-8 after putting together a 10-4 run. The Skyhawks worked their way back to cut the lead to seven and trail 22-15, but it was not enough as the Rams took the set 25-15 and went up 2-0 in the match.

Looking to avoid being swept in the match, Point clawed back into set three to trail 5-3. Mobile broke the set open using a 12-4 run to go up 17-7. The Skyhawks chipped away at the lead, but it was too much as the Rams went on to win 25-13 and win the match 3-0.

Point's Tianna Kynard and Claire Cordell finished six kills each, while Danielle Coker, Paige Lowe, Jasmyn Ceasar, and Ava Clay each had four kills apiece.

Lowe led the team in assists with 23, and teammate Ceasar paced the team in digs with 16. Cordell added 13 digs of her own.
