Point Splits Halloween Doubleheader
WEST POINT, Ga. — October 31, 2025
Point University turned Halloween into a showcase of resilience and firepower, taking the University of Mobile to a five-set battle before turning around just hours later to sweep Truett-McConnell in straight sets. It was the kind of day that tested endurance and revealed the Skyhawks' depth and tenacity.
Game 1: Point Battles Mobile in Five-Set Heartbreaker (2–3)
Final: 25–20, 25–14, 19–25, 24–26, 10–15
The Skyhawks nearly pulled off one of the biggest upsets of their season, storming out to a 2–0 lead over powerhouse Mobile before falling in a marathon five-set clash.
Point came out fearless, hitting .244 in the opening frame and an electric .406 in the second to stun the visiting Rams. Tianna Kynard was unstoppable, blasting 19 kills on .351 hitting, while Claire Cordell added 14 kills and 10 digs, and Danielle Coker provided muscle in the middle with 11 kills on .375.
Setter Paige Lowe kept the Skyhawks' rhythm sharp, dishing 51 assists and anchoring the defense with 16 digs. Jasmyn Caesar filled the stat sheet with 12 kills and 15 digs, and freshman Ava Clay chipped in 3 kills and 2 blocks in key moments.
After taking the first two sets convincingly, Point's energy met a wall of resilience from Mobile, who clawed back behind Corrina Porch-Maxey's 17 kills. The Rams barely edged the fourth set 26–24 before closing the fifth. Despite the loss, the Skyhawks left their home court with heads high, proving they can go toe-to-toe with the top of the SSAC standings.
Game 2: Skyhawks Sweep Truett-McConnell (3–0)
Final: 25–21, 25–23, 25–16
If there were any signs of fatigue after the earlier marathon, Point didn't show it. The Skyhawks regrouped, recharged, and delivered a dominant sweep over Truett-McConnell in their second match of the day.
The offense clicked once again with a team hitting percentage of .241, led by Kynard's 9 kills at .400, and Coker's 8 kills on .357. Ava Clay continued her efficient play, adding 6 kills on .455, while Lowe orchestrated the offense with 27 assists and 2 service aces.
Jasmyn Caesar and Claire Cordell combined for 7 kills and 3 service aces, keeping the Bears' defense off balance. Point's front line turned back multiple attacks with 3 solo blocks and 8 assists, half of which came from Kynard, who capped off a standout day on both ends of the net.
From start to finish, Point dictated the pace—especially in the second set, where their composure under pressure sealed a tight 25–23 win before closing out the match with a commanding third.
Takeaway
The Halloween doubleheader left Point standing tall at 20–15 overall and 6–9 in conference play, proving both their endurance and potential. Against one of the nation's elite in Mobile, they showed championship-level grit; against Truett-McConnell, they showed how dangerous they can be when firing on all cylinders.
