McLaughlin, Sillers Each Score Twice in Loss to Kaiser

WEST POINT, Ga. - The usual offensive pairing of Shaun McLaughlin and Malyke Sillers showed up on Thursday afternoon for the Point University Skyhawks, but it wasn't enough as the three-time defending champion Kaiser University Seahawks took the game 19-5 at River Bowl Stadium. It was the Skyhawks' home opener after beginning the season with six straight on the road.

Keiser sat the tone by scoring early and often, hopping out to a 6-0 lead by the end of the opening quarter. That included three unanswered goals from Ryan Stowell (5:21, 3:23 and 2:03).

The Seahawks ballooned the lead to nine before Jamison Cross got Point on the board. The assist on the other end was credited to Jaden Colabine. Malyk Sillers went back-to-back on the scoresheet, pulling the Skyhawks to an 11-3 deficit at the half. Zachary Covey was named as the helper on the second Sillers tally.

Shaun McLaughlin would go on to beat Keiser goaltender Jackson Chadwick once in the third quarter and again in the fourth, but that rounded out the scoring before the final buzzer. McLaughlin's six shots on the day sat just behind the eight of Sillers.

Whitman Prewitt was in goal for the Skyhawks, producing 19 saves on 38 Keiser shots. Point totaled 19 tries on target.

The loss ended Point's five-game win streak and updated their overall record to 5-2. They'll rest and regroup before a home clash with Webber International University this Saturday, March 14. It'll be a 1:00pm opening faceoff at River Bowl Stadium in West Point.
